Statement on cases of sexual violence at the Faculty of Polish Studies, University of Warsaw

As the PhD Students’ Union, we strongly oppose all forms of physical and mental violence taking place at the University of Warsaw. The university should be a place where every person is treated with due respect and rights. We are shocked by reports of sexual violence at the Faculty of Polish Studies. We cannot remain silent when violent behavior and cases of sexual harassment have taken place at the University. Silence would be a silent consent to behavior unworthy of our University. We want to show support to the victims who submitted a joint application to the Rector’s Committee for Counteracting Discrimination at the University of Warsaw. Remember, if you have experienced violence at the University of Warsaw, there are many people who can help and support you. In matters of sexual violence, you can talk to a sexual violence consultant working at a befriended Student’s Council, asking about possible forms of support at the university.

The role of a consultant is performed by a student who can be contacted in cases of sexual violence by obtaining information on support options, including psychological and legal support. The consultant works directly with university units that provide assistance to the university community.
